Bio:

Kristen Pugh is awesome; she's all kinds of girls (and guys, even) rolled into one. Let's see if we can get all this... She is a 23 year old bilingual medical student who loves fishing, camping, barbecueing, beer, steak, motorcycles and NFL Football. Damn! She also boxes, plays hockey, basketball and slow pitch. A true Canadian. Kristen is also one of the wittiest girls we know, which will make for some very entertaining stories and sports posts.
These are the kind of girls we love. Ones who take it all on, and live to the fullest. One of Kristen's favourite quotes is "Do not pray for a lighter load, but a stronger back." Makes sense, once you know her.

Ravens Win the Superbowl!

Ray Lewis Couldn’t Have Written a Better Ending to His Football Career

Ray Lewis taking in his Superbowl win on February 3, 2013
Wow, am I late submitting this article! Ravens won the Superbowl!! After three days, saying that still excites me. Why? Because Ravens are THE BEST! Yeah, I’m not biased at all…. To be fair though, when your team, that you have dedicated most Sundays and some Thursdays, Saturdays and Mondays to over the years, wins the Superbowl, you have to get in as much gloating as you can. I’m not going to say it’s an unwritten rule because I wouldn’t be surprised if it is... [Keep Reading]

The realities you should be AWARE of - HIV/AIDS Awareness Week Nov 25 - Dec 1

I recently went to do what is called a community service learning experience required for one of my classes. There were a few places where I had the option to go, but where I decided to go is a place called Street Health. The program’s most focused objective is the prevention of the spread of HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and other sexually transmitted infections in high-risk groups and to encourage healthy lifestyles within this population. Knowing full-well how out-of-hand a... [Keep Reading]

A Vicious Cycle of Bullying, Isolation, Depression, Self-Injury and Teenage Suicide

Amanda Todd’s Powerful Story

The story of Amanda Todd has been nonstop on radio stations, newspapers and internet sites. For those of you who have somehow managed to not hear about this young girl, she was a 15 year old who committed suicide on Wednesday, Oct 10, 2012. It wasn’t until I watched her Youtube video that I fully grasped the depth of the situation. It seems that time and time again, we’re hearing the exact same story about kids and particularly teenagers being isolated and bullied among peers... [Keep Reading]

Terry Magel (left) and Perry Pugh (right) set Vanity Cup record with 65.4 lbs total weight (photo credit: Nipawin Journal, Oct 1, 2012; article by Greg Wiseman)
The 19th Annual Vanity Cup fishing tournament took place this past weekend, September 29th and 30th, and history was made! Right off the bat, I have to fess up that I have a not-so-hidden agenda in writing this article. I happen to know the record-setters. In fact, although sometimes he doesn’t like to admit it, I happen to have blood-relations with one of the record setters. With a total tournament weight of 65.4 lbs, Terry Magel and Perry Pugh (MY DAD, Whoop, Whoop!) not only came... [Keep Reading]

Skillaboo Breaking Out of the Queen City

“Lights Out”, Directed Towards People Who Doubt The Power Of A Dream, And Are Reluctant To Support”

It’s an unfortunate reality that many high school friendships get put on the backburner once university time comes and people need to move away for school. Simply put, it becomes impossible to stay in regular contact with absolutely everyone. Sadly, this is what happened with many of my friendships when I moved from Regina to Saskatoon. Although it’s only a couple hours away, I wasn’t able to get back to visit everyone more than one or two times per year with balancing school... [Keep Reading]

Inside Scoop on The War Amps’ CHAMP (Child Amputee) Program

Let Yourself be Inspired by a 7 year old!

Jacob Johnston, member of the CHAMP program, inspiring people even when playing at the park
If asked, close to every person would say they know what a War Amp is. But do they really?Out of curiosity, I decided to ask a few friends their definition of a War Amp. All their answers were pretty well the same: “a person who is missing a limb”. The next thing I asked was if they knew where the title ‘War Amps’ came from. I got a bunch of shrugged shoulders, stunned looks and “I don’t knows”. This confirmed exactly what I suspected. Even with all the... [Keep Reading]

Nothing Better than Saskatchewan Fishing

Crankin’, Riggin’ and Jiggin’ like the Hicks we are!

Ever since I was a tiny tike, around 3 years old, my old man has been taking our family out fishing. We started out in a little boat that pretty much looked like a canoe with a motor and as the years have gone by, the equipment and the passion for fishing have grown more impressive. I’ve been very blessed in my life to have the opportunity to be out on the water, doing something I love every summer. Fishing is one of those sports that can be as simple or as complicated as you make it out... [Keep Reading]

Golf Season Open!

Swing your Stress away!

What did I learn in medical school this year? Stress is bad, exercise is good, and beer…. Well I may have tuned out that part. So overall, I think the message was that everyone should be out golfing as much as possible!Fortunately, Saskatoon has several golf courses nearby! To name a few, there’s Dakota Dune’s, Willows, Moonlake, and Silverwood. Golfing has been made convenient for all Saskatoon people. So, unwrap those new clubs you got for Christmas or pull the old ones out... [Keep Reading]

How to Trick Yourself Into Running

7 Simple Tricks!

Don’t you wish exercising was as easy as when you were a kid? When you’re a kid, you’re always running! Running for play, running away because you did something bad and don’t want to get caught, running because you’re excited, just non-stop energy running. Unfortunately, we grow out of our youthful, super energetic, care-free selves and running around becomes a chore. If you’re anything like me, running is a really big pain in the butt, both literally and...
