Bio:

Chris Enns may just be Saskatoon's most knowledgeable bartender.  It's actually kind of hard to find a bar in town that Chris hasn't worked at... These days there is a growing interest and appreciation for cocktail culture; something Saskatoon doesn't have a ton of experience with. People think we are strictly Pilsner and Caesars, but the times they are a-changin' and Chris is here to guide us through it.  Mr Enns is a great athlete, a ton of fun, and a wealth of knowledge in terms of cocktails and drinks. Look for some great recipes and history attached to his name.

Valentine's Day Cocktails for Home!!

Valentine's Cocktails
Valentine’s Day is a great time to show the one you love how much they mean. It also seems to be a time that ends up thinning my wallet. Thankfully I love to stay in and cook, find ways to save on these occasions by preparing a grand meal from scratch. Cooking and cocktails go hand in hand for me and as Valentine’s Day nears it is a great chance to not only cook but to mix cocktails! From a classic Champagne Cocktail or Kir Royale to a Chocolate Martini (with a twist!), these drinks... [Keep Reading]

Cold As Ice

Using Ice as an Ingredient for Cocktails

Pina Coladas, Margaritas, and Bellini’s are some of the summers most popular drinks, and can be found on many patios either shaken and on ice or blended. Scotch is served neat or on the rocks, and shots of flavored vodka are shaken on ice. Ice is something that we are so accustomed to it is almost unimaginable not to have it, especially behind the bar. It is however a relatively new concept when compared to some spirits being produced for hundreds of years. It was in the 1800’s that... [Keep Reading]

Saskatchewan Crafted Cocktails

Feature Cocktail Menu At 6Twelve

I love Saskatchewan! From the desert like climate of Cypress Hills to the dense forests of our northern parks near Prince Albert, it really is a diverse and beautiful land. I also love making and creating cocktails with new flavours and products, luckily Saskatchewan has an abundance of these resources as well! Taking these two passions I decided to create a feature cocktail menu for 6Twelve emphasising the flavours of our province, from Saskatoon-berries and locally farmed honey to new artisan... Infusion for your next gathering

Get creative with your cocktails!

Finally the last mound of snow has melted, the trees are getting colour, and the neighbourhoods smell like barbeques. While it is not officially summer time, it is the perfect time to start working on home-made flavoured spirits by using your favorite fruits, vegetables, and spices to serve at home or at the lake. While you can find Bacardi, Absolut, and Smirnoff who have a line of nearly a dozen each flavours not to mention Three Olives and Van Gogh who boast closer to 20 flavours... [Keep Reading]

Bitters on the Rise

Cocktail revival brings new life to the old elixer

Bitters are a tool behind the bar that seem to be never used, however that is soon to change with bitters making a big comeback. The cocktail revival has given this once ‘cure-all’ elixir a new life and new flavours are emerging monthly. To begin with the history, the concept of bitters first appeared in the early 1700’s where in London, England it would be used as a sure hangover cure when mixed to burned brandy and sugar, or Canary wine. It wasn’t however... [Keep Reading]

The Sweeter Side of Scotch

...Here it goes, down in to my belly!

Scotch, perhaps the most prestigious of spirits (cognac can compete in price range), is something that has taken me a bit of time to acquire a taste for. I started with the house scotch (probably JW Red or J&B, decent blended scotches) and coke, and never thought I would try it again. But I found a few exceptions that made it easier to tolerate and eventually enjoy; Balvenie DoubleWood 12 year, Highland Park 18 year, and Macallan 15 year. The history of scotch is somewhat murky as it... The Yard & Flagon

So Fresh and So Clean

There are a lot of choices in Saskatoon when it comes to finding a watering hole. Downtown along with Boradway offers a few quality choices all within walking distance. Winston’s English pub is a great place to meet especially with a group of 6 or more, and offering over 100 different varieties of beer in their massive beer menu they are sure to quench your thirst. Meanwhile a short walk down to 2nd ave and you’ll arrive at O’Shea’s. This tucked away pub located in the... [Keep Reading]

The Crazy Mary Caesar

MMMMM Bacon!

The summer of love is known for Woodstock, free love, and the great Canadian Caesar. In 1969 the Westin hotel in Calgary had their grand opening and with it, from the mind of Walter Chell, they revealed a new contemporary cocktail named the ’Bloody Caesar’. Everyone is familiar with the rich tomato and spice bursting through the salted rim; with vodka and a lime it is seemingly capable to cure any hangover.  Fast-forward a few decades and the Caesar remains the king of all... Absinthe in Modern Cocktail Culture

If you’ve seen Eurotrip, you’ve likely been under the spell of absinthe, the once-illicit substance that fuelled the creative works of Vincent van Gogh, Oscar Wilde, Pablo Picasso, and Ernest Hemingway. Despite its fearsome reputation as a hallucinogen, absinthe actually has a much more practical and accessible role in modern cocktail. Absinthe was originally distributed as an elixir by a French doctor in 1792, similar to the Canadian discovery of penicillin—and if a doctor a... [Keep Reading]
