THE IRON MAIDEN

[via: oracle fox]
There is something so exciting to me when it comes to the thought of baseball caps being not only acceptable, but recognizably fashionable in this present, and upcoming season. Turns out fashion and function do meet once in a while. Pracitcality becomes sheek with this look, and I am in love. Plus really, it can be a nicer option to big floppy sun hats to protect yourself from the Sun. Please don't get me wrong as I do love the big hats, however, sometimes when I go to wear them I can't help but feel ridiculous! (Can I get an amen?!)
Amanda Shadforth is one of my style icons. She knows how to push the envelope in cool and effortless ways. If you thought baseball caps were strictly for the sporty look. Please reconsider your antics!

Now with the ever growing popular trend of 'studding' - I was dying to make this look unique to me. I wanted to think outside the box of studding denim, and voila! It came to me. The baseball cap. So here's my little DIY for the day. As it turns out, finding studs is actually a lot harder than one might think. You cannot just 'go to the craft store and pick some up' because apparently they are actually no where to be found. Everyone that I have talked to in this city has either ordered off of E-bay or Etsy. So, I started thinking that there must be a easier way, (not to mention cheaper!) Suddenly I had a flashback to well...not the best era of my life, when I thought I was a hard ass, ready to fit in with all the bros, and I wore those ever popular (thank you Avril Lavigne!) STUDDED belts! Ding ding ding ding! Alarms were going off all throughout my tiny brain. "I AM A GENIUS" is all the words that were inside my head when I realized there is still an ample supply of these old belts at any thrift store.
Therefore you will need: Studs, or old studded belts.
2.) Tweezers! Your new best friend. (this is how you tediously pull the studs off of the belts)
3.) A hat, of whatever color or fabric variety. I wanted a plain black hat, and actually also got this one at a thrift shop for $1.00.
(What a steal!)
As studding something, or anything really, seems like a no brainer, it was a tiny bit trickier than I thought, so here are some helpful tips! Lay out the pattern that you are intending to do with the studs before you start. It can be quite difficult making them straight, and figuring out a pattern on the fly is not always going to look like your best work.
This way you can also get the spacing right. What I thought was going to be a ten minute project turned into an hour and a half! But I am a perfectionist who needs everything to be... perfect. So this definitely helps to plan ahead!
Then, get studding! I did not have to make any pre-cuts before putting the studs on the hat. I found that it was actually easier than I had assumed to assemble them.
Like I said, it's a no brainer, and not too much of a DIY, but I still thought I should share :)
And for the final product:
