Paul Simon's controversial and influential Graceland album revisited

Tue, 07/10/2012

I'm so excited to hear about this movie! I'll tell you why... Four or five years ago, on a lazy afternoon of music library expanding, I picked up 15 or 20 of the most critically acclaimed albums of all time; Graceland was one of them. I was quick to feel the album and it has since become one of the top three in my collection; I walk around with it in my headphones at least once weekly.

Now Paul Simon returns to South Africa to explore the journey of his Graceland album, including the political backlash he received for allegedly breaking the UN cultural boycott of South Africa designed to end the Apartheid regime in this documentary called Under African Skies.

I haven't watched it yet but it excites me to see that the film is as much about cultural conflict and political uneasiness (and the power of art to nullify these obstacles) as it is about the music.
