Spareparts sponsors the Groove Series
Thu, 06/07/2012
The line up for The Grooves series at the Saskatchewan Jazz Festival this year is outrageous. Spareparts has partnered with the Jazz Festival to bring you some of the greatest acts that the Groove series has ever seen, plus we'll be at every single one of them with giveaways and more, so prepare yourselves for a dance-off or two. It is a complete honor for us to be involved with the Jazz festival this year.
The shows for the Groove series start late, 10pm, and don't have tickets - just cover, so make sure you show up at the ones you want to see most good and early. We don't want anyone missing out on acts like these:
DJ ?uestlove
The one and only. A music knowledge mastermind, and one of the funkiest and most soulful drummers on the planet, ?uestlove is heading to the Odeon after drumming for the Roots to throw a real party. I caught him at Scratch last year and it was a blast. Be ready to hear every song, ever. I think he must have played over 10,000 songs in one night last time around. I could be a little off there, but something like that. Questlove just shows up, plays his entire music library and leaves everyone satisfied. Don't miss it.
Young Empires
Young Empires - Let You Sleep Tonight (Live at the Edge)
How do you describe Young Empires besides "awesome?" I'm not too sure... Electric indie-rock? Either eway, they are big right now and on the rise. YE has been at all the big festivals this summer already and are going to be really fun to see in Amigos.
Mayer Hawthorne (DJ set)
Big name right here. Mayer Hawthorne is based out of Detroit and has been doing big things for the music scenen in the last few years. Hawthorne started as a DJ and then, somewhere along the line, produced the tracks that you now associate with his name, and was convinced to sing over them. Watching Mayer Hawthorn return to his roots on the wheels of steel will be nothing but a party. Oh - Ps. This guy is a record digger, and will be pulling out a ton of really cool old stuff.
Timber Timbre
Beautiful, beautiful stuff. One of my favourite new bands right now, Timbre Timber is a going to be a full house at Amigos, so get the early!
Hooded Fang
Hooded Fang - "Vacationation": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
Do you like having fun? Yeah, you'll like this guys then.
Five Alarm Funk
Five Alarm Funk - The Iron Pegasus
I don't know if you've seen Five Alarm Funk yet or not. But please do yourself the biggest favour and come out this night to amigos, get your sweat on, and wear yourself out. This Vancouver-based band is impossibly funky! Mmm! SO GOOD! I can honestly say that this is the one I'm most excited about.
Shuffle Demons
SD has been on the scene a long time and know how to give you a proper fun Jazz show. My favourite is "Spadina Bus"
Heavyweights Brass Band
Heavyweights Brass Band - Why Can't We Be Friends (War)
All I can say is that I'd love to see these guys play at a football game. They'd be so perfect in the stands! Amigos will have to do, this one will be a blast.
Lucky Peterson
Lucky Peterson - Three Handed Woman 720p
Sooo talented. Good blues stuff that will sound phenomenal in Amigos.
