Sound Bar #006 - Wide Mouth Mason
A rare hometown performance tomorrow night at Louis!
Tue, 10/09/2012
Wide Mouth Mason puts on the best live show. Period. They make the best use of the rock trio format, with each member delivering HARD! Although I have not been able to catch them live since the swap of Earl Pereira (who now fronts The Steadies) for Gordie Johnson (known best for fronting Big Sugar), although I have heard the same enthusiastic praise for their live show since. I have seen there blues-rock influence time and time again over groups at my open mic night.
Wide Mouth Mason is one of Saskatoon's most eagerly mentioned exports, and really deserve to be the world's most famous band. You don't see too many bands like this anymore: they have an entirely unique sound (with hints of almost every genre mixed in) and they each know their instruments inside and out. Shaun Verrault blows my mind everytime I see him play, Safwan Javed is so solid on drums -just a groove-machine, and Gordie Johnson is another fantastic Canadaian musician who rips it up on bass. There. Three. That's all you need. Check out some live performances (new and old) by the band (below), then get your ass to Louis' Pub on campus tonight to see it in person.
