From June 19th-22nd over 250 of the best independent bands, comedians, artists, and filmmakers will flood Calgary for the 7th Sled Island Music Festival. The Kettle Valley Railway, opened in 1915, was a primary transportation and communications route connecting the southern interior of BC to the coast. In 1973 the section of the railway that ran through Kelowna, known as The Myra Canyon Trestles, closed although other parts remained operational until 1989. Last weekend the UBCO Visual Arts Course Union hosted a great community event at the French Cultural Center downtown on Bernard Avenue. The event, which ran for two days, featured art by UBCO's very own art students. The opening reception, which ran from 7pm until after midnight on Friday, featured free snacks and live music. The 6th Annual Okanagan Arts Awards ceremony was held Saturday, March 2nd at the Kelowna Community Theatre downtown.
