HOW TO fake a 20s bob

Gatsby Girl

On one hand, the twenties was an era of rhinestones, crystal, and excess and on the other, it brought a liberation in women's fashion marked by comfortable drop-waist dresses and the option of wearing pants. That liberation in fashion was directly influenced by the country's optimism and markedly progressive thinking: World War I ended favorably for the US and the Allies, prosperity was a-happenin', women had finally been given the right to vote, and ladies could choose to be in the... Rise of the Punk Influence and Menswear on a Woman FW2013

Versace Chanel Givenchy   Fausto Puglisi     Jeremy Scott       Anthony Vaccarello     Rodarte   Suno     Junya Watanabe   From Saint Laurent to Rodarte, the FW 2013 collections were painted with punk influence. Alongside was the structure of menswear, placed delicately on a woman. Powerful and sexy, I am all for this trend. I mean, are you surprised? Lord knows I'm a fan of the design of menswear. Plus, I grew up... [Keep Reading]

Farmfresh on the runway!

It was great seeing Farmfresh out on the runway at last weekend's Saskatchewan Fashion Week in Regina! All of our models killed it (thanks again!) and the Farmfresh accessories worked perfect with the brilliant outfits we were lucky enough to have put together by Luna and Hill; a great shop right here in Saskatoon. Here's a video highlighting the Farmfresh runway segment (complete with snippets from the cool background video we made): Video of Farmfresh on the Runway at... [Keep Reading]

Designer Profile: ASHLEY KASDORF

Q&A with the girl behind KAZZ

The afternoon I first met Ashley Kasdorf backstage of the Saskatchewan Fashion Week runway, she was sporting the night's signature runway look of a top knot and put-together make up and I assumed she was waiting for her fittings. We chatted for a bit and when I finally asked about her upcoming night of modelling, Ashley said she's actually a designer and was there to show her line, KAZZ. Naturally, I asked for a guided tour... and I don't know what I expected, but I found her... [Keep Reading]

Studded Obsession

Trending Fall to Spring.

I have been wanting to share my obsession with studs for a while.  It started slowly last year with spiked stacked bracelets, and I really got into it this fall moving to spiked flats, onto studded military jackets. Moving into spring I have my eye on studded cut offs, clutches, collars, and sandals.  This trend is all about the details, you can go big and bold or keep it simple with small embellishments. Moving into spring I like to keep it a bit lighter/simpler as the fabrics... [Keep Reading]

In Defence of the Punk Met Ball

Most everyone was confused to see Kim Kardashian and Anna Wintour (omg I am using those names in the same sentence) in dresses that were fitted and flowered as they walked the carpet at this past weekend's Met Ball celebrating the punk fashion exhibit “From Chaos To Couture”. And people laughed when Minka Kelly guessed that she was probably punk for a second. “I've gone through many phases in my life, I think [punk] may have been one briefly,” she said for some... Black + White + BOUFFANT ALL OVER

#pictorial

Now and in the last few seasons colour has been bold and over-the-top, green and hot pinks transcending their traditional season to cheer us in autumn and cobalt and bright yellow shone to buoy our spirits in winter. But as much as I adore colour, there is something to be said for black and white: it is simple, timeless, and it forces you notice texture, pattern, and line in a way from which colour can distract. And with that in mind, make-up artist Lisa Hallam conceptualized a black-and-white... [Keep Reading]

=WAR PAINT=

#interview

I first learned about Stevie Crowne's =War Paint= when I wrote about Alchemy's ReVamp show. I got excited about =War Paint= because I loved the concept of using existing pieces and reworking the feel of each entirely with strong, edgy embellishments and I also dug the line's cheeky, in-the-moment vibe. Since the ReVamp show, Stevie has spent some time in Vancouver making his ECO Fashion Week debut and shooting for his new Look Book and if that's not enough excitement, Stevie is... [Keep Reading]
