Summer Prints

Love 'em or Hate 'em they are here to stay....

Fri, 07/20/2012

So most of you have had a love / hate relationship with prints over the last few years.  They were so cool and unique at first, we all couldn’t get enough of them! Then I don’t really need to remind any of you of the “all over” print stage (which admitely I fully embraced at first) First there was the ever so popular "logo- all over print" followed by the "anything goes -all over print" . By this point closets and stores nation wide were packed with all over prints and customers were over it (no pun inteneded) this pretty much signaled the slow dimise of prints in action sports.  But not to worry, nobody wants to be lonely so we all quickly hoped into bed with basic solids, textured materials and heathered fabrics.  This basics based relationship will withstand the test of time, but I think we can all admit we craved a bit of spice in our wardrobe....So if you haven’t already, it’s time you stop hating and embrace the return of prints! And get used to them because you wont see them going away anytime soon. Fall fashion is just around the corner and you will see everything from Ikat printed outerwear to snakeskin print handbags and shoes.

Here are some of my favorite summer prints. If you haven't tried them yet, you still have a few months to play these looks out!

Floral

This cutsy feminine print is perfect for summer. There are lots of fun floral and paisley printed pieces on the market right now ranging from floral denim to silk floral dresses.  Floral looks especially badass when paired with leather or denim.

Tribal

There a few different types of prints that fall in this category. They can look exceptionally light and fresh for summer and still work perfect with your fall wardrobe.

Ikat – This is a dying technique that’s commonly used in South East Asia and South America, it incorporates triangular shapes and bold geometric patterns, creating a bright and bold effect.

Aztec- Originated in Mexico and are usually monochromatic and geometric.

Tie Dye

Definitely a fan favorite and perfect for achieving that easy breezy summer look. Bonus points if it is D.I.Y.

Stripes/Nautical

These usually go out and come back each and every spring, so you should definitely invest in a few of the red, white and navy stripes. They are classics and can pretty much be mixed and matched in any outfit.

And don't be scared to mix and match prints, as long as you aren't too matchy matchy you can totally pull this look off!
