Don't be shy

Sat, 05/12/2012

I've heard all to often from people "oh you work there!?" "That place is so nice" "It’s too expensive for me". Blah blah blah not the case if you can afford to drink on 17th you can afford to drink anywhere on 17th. In fact some of the "nice" or "fancy" places may be on par with your usual watering whole, in some instances cheaper. Most young people don't experience these places because of intimidation. They may feel underdressed or they're not going to be allowed in. Just walk the walk! Pros in this business can spot and uneasy guest a mile away.  Someone that doesn't know to put their napkin in their lap, try's to order wine by color, or gets confused when they're offered a choice of water. Don't feel bad everything has a learning curve, pros will make you feel at home.

I’m a young guy for my social circle and I have been exposed to the top places the city has to offer; largely to visit another ally in the field. I am usually dressed in a presentably casual manner. I'll post up at the bar, throw up a high five and quench my thirst. I always catch a few glances from the polished Calgary elite that have their Mercedes fob garnishing their Bold BB.  They're probably wondering, "Who's the kid". The ballsy ones will often ask me if I'm old enough to be here.  I’ve been known to throw back a cheeky quip that usually earns me a drink on their tab. The whole point here is - go for it don't be intimidate just own it and mine your manners.

On another note come check out the Made With Love Cocktail comp at Mango Shiva Monday May 14th 4pm - 7pm.  Calgary's best bartenders are throwing down iron chef style. More on this later!
