The News Feed #018

The latest web essentials served up weekly - Video Roundup!

Thu, 09/20/2012

Hey hey everybody! This week The Newsfeed brings you a roundup of the latest (and not so latest) must-see videos. Rest assured though, you won't find any Bieber or Honey Boo-Boo or even Gangnam Style here. This is stuff you'd only see by checking out The Rooster (or by way too much late night YouTubing…)

First up, if you think the bus is lame and only for poor students or crazy people, I guarantee this epic Danish bus commercial will change your mind. Don't forget to turn on the subtitles.

Riding on DARPA's new "Big Dog" robot would be an even cooler form of transportation. These slightly creepy robots are being developed to provide support services for small squads of soldiers, potentially carrying equipment and ammunition. I'd love to take one of these to a dog park and watch all the real animals poop themselves in fear and disbelief.

And here's the older and even creepier version:

Next, check out this glass blower's incredible skill and dexterity as he whips up a glass horse in about 60 seconds! I have a feeling that if I tried this I'd end up with a mangled blob of half broken glass and some nicely singed fingers.

In a similar feat of dexterity and speed, UK cup stacking champion Lee Norton demonstrates his abilities in an regular speed video that is pretty mind boggling.  I particularly love his bad-ass extra wide stance for ultimate stacking stability. (Not sure what the hell is going on with the weird flashes of orange stuff...)

Sticking with the manual dexterity theme for the last vid, here's scratch DJ extraordinaire, good Canadian (and regular Saskatoon visitor), Skratch (Paul Murphy) Bastid performing a sick all vinyl competition set at Scribble Jam. This one's an oldie but a goodie.  Check it:
