Chad Coombs Photo Shoot at The Odeon
Photo shoot at the downtown music venue uncovers hidden gems.
Mon, 08/27/2012
The last time I accompanied Chad Coombs on a shoot, we were granted access to the creaky abandoned halls of the Golden Dragon building downtown. This time around, I had the priviledge of opening the doors to The Odeon for the Saskatoon photographer. The sprawling downtown music venue is overflowing with artifacts and junk from years gone by. Facades and personalities shed and long forgotten. The Odeon is actually situated in two separate historical buildings downtown, the old Royal Bank of Canada and Victoria theatre (which changed hands and changed many times over the years). This means that the venue has two basements, littered with old signage and marquee letters, abandoned bank safes, hallways leading to tunnels leading to nowhere, and a downright creepy appeal. Chad Coombs uses these spaces masterfully to compliment his subject, leaving a fashion series that is a visual feast.
