Marc Jacobs Speaks About Collaboration

In the world of fashion the words collaboration and inspiration are becoming more and more interchangeable. The pieces we see ON SHELVES, ONLINE and in all forms of media are increasingly becoming the result of one or more companies or artists coming together to create. While inspiration is the root of both art and fashion, what is sometimes forgotten is that almost all creations are the result of what we see and how we interpret something others have done.
When we take a creation that exists because of someone, or something else, either in our own areas of comfort, or another realm and turn it into something that is individual and unique, that is when the magic truly begins to happen. So when someone like MARC JACOBS, designer and creator of some of the world's best known fashions collaborates with the likes of Yayoi Kusama the end result will undoubtedly bring about a new twist on something that may have existed in the fashion industry for years.
In the video below we hear the fashion magnate speak about how when the house he heads, Louis Vuitton came together with Kusama it was a fusion of everything from the classic and timeless patterns of the Vuitton monogram and the iconic Japanese designers love of polka-dots, to the trend setting and cutting edge use of things like plastic in a jacket that brings forth a fresh and new esthetic, in a way that only these minds could conceive.
At the end of the day, perhaps the biggest thing we can take from this is that everywhere we look and in everything we see, inspiration exists. This is true in our daily lives as much if not more than it is on the pages of a magazine or the computer screen that sits in front of us. So the moral of the story may be that we need to really take some time to enjoy the things around us and embrace what we love, whether that is the PRODUCT we see as consumers, or the people who impact us everyday.
